  • Sir,

My name is Tom Thicknesse and I am 16 years old. I am at Downside School in Somerset, where I have just taken AS levels in English Literature, History, Religious Studies and Geography. I live in Alverstoke, near Portsmouth.

I have wanted to fly all my life, and coming from a military family a career as a military pilot is hugely attractive to me. I hope to join the Royal Navy as an aircrew officer after leaving school next year. I am looking forward to next week hugely!

I enjoy rugby, hockey and cricket, but having grown up near the sea, my first loves are sailing and windsurfing. I am a keen musician; I play piano, 'cello and I sing, and at school I have produced a number of plays and a musical. I am also an NCO in the CCF contingent.

My name is Tom Bassett, I am 17 years old and I attend Strode College in Somerset. I am studying Maths, Physics, Electrontics and Photography and I have just finished my first year of A levels.

It has been a life long ambition of mine to become an Aircrew Officer in the Royal Navy. This ambition comes from having Family in the Navy aswell as only living a matter of miles from RNAS Yeovilton. I plan to apply as an Aircrew Offier after I finish my A level studies.

I play football for a local Saturday League team. I also enjoy Surfing, Snowboarding and Swimming.

I am also a keen musician as I play and teach the guitar. I have also played in the local town Pantomime providing a backing track.

I look forward to meeting everyone on Friday for what will be a hugely enjoyable week

Hi, my name is Amanda Valentine, I’m 17 and attend Sir William Borlase’s Grammar School, Marlow, Buckinghamshire. Kinda hoping I’m not the only girl on the course…

Will anyone be travelling by rail via Maidenhead, Reading or Basingstoke? It would be good to have a travelling companion. Also, it will be too late to get home by train after the award presentation on the evening of Friday 18th and I wonder if there is provision for staying over and travelling home on Saturday.

Looking forward to meeting everyone on Friday.

  • Amanda,
No worries. Everyone will be staying at the Wardroom on the Friday night, and travelling to the train station on Saturday morning. Also, anyone requiring lifts from the station give me a ring or leave a message on here and we'll see what we can do. Finally, don't worry, there's two girls!.

  • To Lt R Croker,

Hello sir, my name is Fraser Watt. I am 17 years old and have just finished my 6th and final year at high school, soon moving up to Aberdeen to attend my first year at university, studying politics and geography.

Ever since I was very young I have always wanted to join the navy. At the age of 14 I joined the air cadets (purely because there was no sea cadet squadron near where I stayed.) Later that year I got my first flight in a Viking mk.2 glider and later in a Grob tutor and loved every minuet of it. Since then I have been determined on a career in the fleet air arm.

In my spare time I am a keen mountain biker, swimmer and rugby player.

I very much looking forward to meeting you this weekend

    Regards

    Fraser Watt
